If you are addicted to shorthanded sailing, look out for Fjällmans Shorthanded Cup series on the Swedish West Coast.
The series consists of 4 regattas, Dubbelt Så Bra, Pantaenius Bohusracet, Robline Skagen Race and Öckerö Shorthanded Race. Check out my article for the published results 2020 and videos from some of the regattas here.
Fjällman Shorthanded Cup’s sponsor and organisers announced today on their facebook group a change in the series.
While it still consists of the same 4 regattas, it now includes each of the 8 races as seaparately. Let us look at each regatta and how they contribute to the overall series:
- Dubbelt Så Bra consists of 2 different races. The first is a windward/leeward race course sailed in the bay just in front of Björlanda Kile’s sailing club. Crossing the finish line of the first race kicks off the second one. The second race is a distance race around the island Björkö. The arranging body decides the direction on race day.
- Pantaenius Bohusracet is a distance race stretching about 180NM and 2 days (for many of us anyway). Because of the length in miles and required time to complete, it counts in the series as 2 races.
- Robline Skagen Race is in fact 2 offshore races along the division line between the Kattegat and Skagerrak seas. The first race starts from the archipelago North of Gothenburg and arrives in Skagen, Denmark. The second race is a return trip after an overnight “abroad”.
- Öckerö Shorthanded Race includes 2 separate inshore races in the same archipelago North of Gothenburg. Weather conditions on race day determine each course.
The 6 best races out of 8 count!
Swedish handicap system SRS shorthanded (SRSs) applies in all races.
