A taste of life aboard a J/80 in heavy weather.
Stora Oset race 2022 gave us the opportunity to experience how she behaves in winds between 25 and 35 knots. And how me and my co-skipper handle her double-handed in a blow.
Outcome?
- Never unsafe or dangerous in any way
- Keeping her on her feet requires continuous attention, close-hauled and close reaching
- Topped 13.5kts downwind with heavy weather jib and deep reefed main
- On the next day, it hurts everywhere, but I’d go out sailing right now
