Planned races 2020

Looking back at 2019, we have done great progress in preparing the boat for shorthanded sailing, in spite of a reduced sail kit (main, medium jib, spinnaker AP). Stripping loads of “un-needed” clutter paid dividends in simplicity, ease of handling and weight. Race finish bottom had a terrific impact on performance. I have recorded target speeds varying between 0,5 and 1,5 kn higher than the previous seasons on all points of sails and wind conditions, no doubt greatly due to finish.

Weaknesses: preparation. For one reasons or another we have struggled with strategy and tactical planning. We are addressing this during the dark winter months and we are putting some focus into it.

Furthermore, 60% of the races have been in heavier breeze with winds around and sometimes over 30kn. The complete sail wardrobe (main, medium jib, heavy jib, vmg spi, spinnaker ap, heavy reacher) in season 2020 will be an interesting asset to try out.

Next year will be an intense season with mixed in-shore/off-shore races along the Swedish West coast and Denmark and regular club races as training sessions and additional trainings to fine tune crew and boat.

  • Stora Oset

One of my favorite, repeated with different boats every year, and, perhaps because it is the first of the season, it always feel great with a mix of in-shore and short off-shore.

  • Pater noster Race

Our first time. We want to try a new race as well as having a training chance before the next big one.

  • Midsummer Solo Challange

Last year experience was terrific. At the risk of spoiling that memory, I want to take the opportunity to experience a long solo sail journey in a safe environment again, mixed in-shore/off-shore.

  • Bohusracet

We sailed this race for the first time year last year and it was a great experience. However we were not able to complete as we decide to retire for the safety of the boat and crew. Time for revenge.

  • Tjörn Runt

We are not sure if this will be shorthanded. We love the social aspect related with getting to the start on the day before, the intense sail which is however not exhausting, the evening with a crew and the shared memories afterwards. We may be recruiting crew, time will show.

  • Vegvisir

This is a real challenge for us. Firstly the logistics, as the starting line is in Southern Denmark. It is going to be a long sail off-shore to get there and to get back. The race is a mixed in-shore/off-shore, without handicap, which means that we have no chance of getting a good position, since we are the slowest boat in the class (30-35ft). However we believe that it will be a unique experience and to be ticket off.

  • Öckerö Shorthanded Race

A nice format, with a couple of days out, dedicated to shorthand boats and with a social aspect to it at the harbor. It feels like a great way to close the racing season.
