Our ambition was to throw in some more serious offshore challenges in our racing plans. With Gotland Runt elected to host ORC Double Hand Worlds in 2022, we were very attracted by the opportunity. Nevertheless growth in family crew and a new boat, put that plan on hold and we re-focused on a more local “West Coast” double and single hand calender.

First race of the year and first race ever on the modified J/80! We don’t expect amazing results, but a first real insight in the boat competitiveness under handicap. Not to mention a hard lesson for the crew!

My fourth time. I thought that was enough, but I couldn’t resist.

Firstly, it’s on a new (to me) boat and a very different one. Secondly, I love the atmosphere around the whole thing and an excuse for a night alone at sea is priceless. Thirdly, this is the first registration opening during the dark winter; how can anyone hold back?

Bohusracet 2020

A tough race, with some logistics, plenty of social activity, a real challenge. Being on the Swedish West Coast and not attending is really not an option. This year, the race has been “upgraded” to Svenskt Distanskappseglingsmästerskap (SDM), or Swedish Distance racing Championship. We were somehow doubtful, since each class has been split up in two, those racing for the SDM and those not; which means that boats race in a smaller groupfor their class win. We like large starts and intense “races in the race”. In the end we told ourselves What the heck, we just want to get there and be part of it.

Gothenburg Lighethouses Solo Race 2021

This is one intense solo race. Although, not an official one. But hey, does it need to be?

Last year’s unplanned dinner on the evening prior racing was awesome fun. All sailors attending, plus some accompanying families as well as sailors not even sailing the race showed up for the event. Sailing conditions were just perfect and Peter Gustafsson turning up on a powerboat and photo shooting, just topped it Here his pictures!

Robline Skagen Race race report 2021

Sailing West at sunset is always magic
Sailing West at sunset is always magic

We participated last year for the first time, in its non-Covid version and really liked the format and camaraderie at Skagen. Furthermore, it gives us the chance to try offshore sailing on the J/80 in a safe mode since 1) yachts are never too far apart and 2) at the most distant point we have a “quit” option that only takes a few hours to reach land in case things do not work out. Really looking forward to this event.

Öckerö Shorthanded Race Race report 2021, 2020

It has become a tradition to terminate the racing season with Öckerö Shorthand Race. Easy logistics, social interaction, intense and tough competition on a tight racecourse is what we all look for, isn’t it?

Besides these main regattas, we will attend club sailing at KMS on Tuesday evenings as usual.
